Bringing Laughter and Love to the World - Kimberly Gold’s Story
When women come together, we move mountains, break barriers, and create a healthy community for everyone. Imagine what our world, our communities, our schools, and our homes would be if we uplifted and empowered women to have a voice.
We’ve invited the infamous Kimberly Gold to join our platform here at Boss Babe Networking to share her story with us. This is what she had to say..
“It took years of therapy and self-love to forgive the younger version of me.”
Let’s start with an introduction. Tell us about yourself. Feel free to share your business, your life’s mission, and what brings you joy.
Comedian, professional speaker, nonprofit manager, content creator, and social media consultant - I wear many hats but I am most proud of bringing laughter and love through community into the world. I strongly believe that community changes everything and as a military "brat" turned military spouse, I believe that it is our purpose to make communities better even if we will only be a part of that community for a season.
Here at BBN, we’re all about sharing Women’s stories. Tell us about a time you had to overcome an obstacle? What did that moment in your life teach you?
When I share this struggle, I see such mixed responses. Sometimes I see the horror and judgment in people’s faces, sometimes I see the hope and relief. I had an abortion as a young adult. I allowed that decision to wreck me for a long time. I felt like I had not only killed a life but I also lost my own. I felt ashamed, unlovable, and unworthy. It took years of therapy and self-love to forgive the younger version of me. I share this because I know so many men and women who have yet to forgive themselves. Through this, I learned the value of sex education, unlearning the “virginity” myth, and understanding how trauma from sexual assault shows up well after the assault is over. Don’t let your past take away your future.
“It starts with us, as women, recognizing our power and first telling ourselves YES to opportunities, worthiness, and boundaries!”
What do you believe is the biggest challenge women in business face?
Women have been told they are the weaker sex. Societal norms reinforced this with gender roles, the “invisible” workload, pay inequality, sexism going unchecked in the workplace, and so much more. The result of this is that many of us tell ourselves no before anyone else does. Yes, we have a long way to go to reach gender equality, but it starts with us, as women, recognizing our power and first telling ourselves YES to opportunities, worthiness, and boundaries!
What did the younger version of you want to be when you grew up?
The younger me wanted to be an entertainer or a politician. That was back in the day where the two careers lived very separate lives! Today, we see that politicians can be just as entertaining as comedians, singers, actors, etc! I love that we live in a world of AND not or and we aren’t confined to as many boxes of the past.
What advice would you give Women in Business?
As women, we do it all. We are used to wearing many hats and wearing those hats well. When it comes to business, we try to do the same thing. When you are establishing your business, really hone in on what your niche is. You may have the ability to do many things but when you are starting out…. BE LASER FOCUSED. As your business grows, outsource responsibilities like payroll, calendar management, and social media! Focus on the things you do best and outsource the rest!
