Finding Confidence & Connection: Talia’s Journey with Boss Babe Academy
When I created Boss Babe Academy, it wasn’t just an idea—it was a mission, and the inspiration behind it was deeply personal. My stepdaughter, Talia Lyric Sharpe, was the reason I brought this vision to life. She has been part of the academy since day one, and her journey is a testament to why this program exists.
In this HerStory interview, Talia opens up about what it’s been like to grow alongside Boss Babe Academy, the impact it has had on her confidence, and what she would say to other young women who are looking for a space to belong.
“It Makes Me Feel Special”
When I asked Talia how it felt knowing that Boss Babe Academy was created because of her, her answer was both heartfelt and humbling.
“It makes me feel special,” she said with a soft laugh. “I’m grateful that you turned all of my insecurities—things I was dealing with—into something positive, not just for me but for other girls too.”
That’s exactly what Boss Babe Academy is about—taking our struggles, our doubts, and our fears and transforming them into strength, empowerment, and connection.
Watching Boss Babe Academy Grow
Talia has seen Boss Babe Academy evolve from a vision to a program that is now hosted at the Olympic & Paralymic Training Center this summer. She’s watched it impact young women year after year, and when asked what it feels like to see that growth, she reflected on the journey.
“It’s incredible. It’s so empowering. The first year, I didn’t know how it would go, but it ended up being amazing. Then the second year, I thought I knew what to expect, but there were still so many unexpected things that made it even better.”
Each year, the academy builds on itself—more connections, more transformation, and more opportunities for young women to see themselves as leaders, creators, and entrepreneurs.
Breaking the Fear of Drama & Finding Connection
Many girls hesitate to join programs like Boss Babe Academy because they fear the possibility of “girl drama.” Talia remembers feeling the same way.
“I remember when we were sitting at Sonic, and we talked about this fear of being in a room full of girls, wondering if there would be drama. But there wasn’t. And if there was, you would’ve made sure it didn’t last. If your parents think this camp is amazing, then trust them—it’s going to be amazing,” says Talia.
One of the biggest takeaways from Boss Babe Academy isn’t just learning about confidence—it’s about finding real friendships.
Talia shared how one of her biggest moments of connection was with another participant, Ali.
“At first, I thought she hated me. But after the camp, I felt so close to her. Seeing her again recently made me realize how much our friendship had grown because of Boss Babe Academy.”
For many girls, the program becomes a safe space to build genuine relationships, especially for those who have struggled to find the right friendships.
“It’s hard for me to find friends that are girls,” Talia admitted. “Boss Babe Academy definitely helps with that.”
To The Girl Struggling With Confidence
When I asked Talia what she would say to a girl who is struggling with mental health or confidence, her response was powerful.
“It’s not always going to be like this. You’re strong, and you’re here for a reason. Even when things feel hard, try to pick your head up. The best person who will always be there for you is you.”
That wisdom is exactly why Boss Babe Academy exists—to remind young women that they are capable, worthy, and stronger than they think.
Who is Talia Lyric Sharpe?
When I asked Talia to describe who she is, her response was honest and real.
“I’m still figuring that out.”
And that’s okay.
For every girl out there searching for her place, her confidence, and her purpose, Talia’s story is a reminder: You are still becoming. And that is more than enough.
