HELLO! My name is Ebony. I am your go to for all your gifting needs. I was born and raised on the beautiful Caribbean island of Anguilla. I am also a US Army Vet, which I am proud to say I have served. My service to this country that has welcomed me with open arms is never ending.

I first started my business in 2019 as Island Touch Giftbaskets and rebranded mid 2023 to Creative Islander. The brand Creative Islander is about “transforming the gifting experience!” Gifting should always be an experience between the giver and the recipient. Creating a special connection through the gift.

We specializes in Balloon Decor/Gifts & Backdrop Rental; Picnic Escapes for Dates, Kids Birthday Sleepover; Suite Celebrations; Corporate and Personal Gift Boxes & Baskets, and other handmade products.

Creative Islander is about “Transforming the Gifting Experience”

Here at BBN, we’re all about sharing women’s stories. Tell us about a time you had to overcome an obstacle? What did that moment in your life teach you?

Leaving the military was hard, stepping back into civil life and finding my purpose again was an obstacle that was hard to overcome. This pivotal moment thought me to step outside my comfort zone and learn to accept the help of the community that extended their hand. to help me and my girls transition. Because of this outpour of the community I now chose to spend my time socializing in empowerment group such as the WE.RISE Colorado Springs & the COS Black Chamber of Commerce or volunteering my time with the The Southeast Food Coalition, and rallying the same community for our annual June Toy Drive for the COS Children’s Hospital and of course spending time with my family.

What do you believe is the biggest challenge women in business face?

A challenge I like many women in business have today, is always having to balance our day to day responsibilities of having a family, working additional careers to support our business dreams, while seeking an adequate support system within our community, along with the fear of having our business fail in on out path to success.

What did the younger version of you want to be when you grew up?

The younger me wanted to be a teacher. I must say I fulfilled my dream of being a teacher however not in my field of choice: Visual Arts. I still love teaching which I still get to do! But I use my business as an outlet to express my creativity in art and I get share it with others.

What advice would you give women in business?

My advice to all women in business is the following three things:

  1. Don’t fear failure: Not everything you try will work. Failure is a normal part of the process. So long as you learn something, you can move forward wiser and more resilient.

  2. Don’t stop striving for improvement: Focus on improving as you grow. Reflect on your experiences and learn from them so you don’t repeat mistakes. Get a little bit better every day.

  3. Enjoy the journey: Being an entrepreneur isn’t glamorous, it’s hard work. Take time to enjoy yourself and surround yourself with positive people. Being a business owner doesn’t mean things are always in your control.
